If you’ve never been to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London then here is your chance. For £5 you stand in the arena, with the orchestra in spitting distance (don’t try it!), right at the heart of the music-making. Join us on Saturday 14th August for Prom 39 (7.30pm), a concert of orchestral transcriptions of Bach. If that sounds like double-Dutch, don’t worry, the music will sound beautiful!

You cannot book tickets to promenade (stand) in advance. Instead you queue up the steps from Prince Consort Road. We’ll meet in the queue at 6pm. Either eat in advance, or bring something to eat in the queue. Admission begins at 6.45pm. The custom is to sit on the floor before the concert and during the interval, but you’ll need to be able to stand for long periods of time. The concert starts at 7.30pm and finishes about 9.30pm. We’ll use the Underground from South Kensington to get to Victoria. If we are quick we can get the 22:06, which gets us back to Lewes (via Brighton) at 23:21. Otherwise it is the 22:47, into Lewes at 23:51. Why not make a day of it? A super off-peak day return from Lewes to Victoria is £14 (children £1 each).

Britisn Museum: On the same day (1.00pm), if there is enough demand, there will be a repeat of the February tour of the British Museum. This is an exciting chance to see for yourself the historical reliability of the Old Testament. If there is enough interest Tim Mitchell will give the tour. Entry to the Museum is free. We’ll meet just inside the main entrance at 1pm. The tour lasts less than 2 hours. It is not suitable for young children – they tend to get bored!

Kayaking on the Cuckmere (?/?/2011)

Come kayaking in the Cuckmere Valley! What could be nicer than floating gently along the water on a beautiful summer’s day? Meet at the centre car-park at 12.45pm.

You will need: clothing & shoes to get wet; ability to swim; stuff for on-site showers; a consent form for U18s; £10 per head;

Advance booking required. There is a sign-up sheet on the welcome desk, or email us.

This activity is run by qualifed instructors from the canoeing centre at Exceat, with all the necessary insurance etc. Why not bring a picnic lunch for afterwards?

Venue: the upstairs function room at the John Harvey Tavern in Lewes (www.johnharveytavern.co.uk). Directions: Walk over Cliffe Bridge, turn right past Argos, & you’re there! We’ll start at 7.30pm, watch the film, have a short break, then discuss it. The film is free. Buy your drinks & snacks in the bar downstairs.
